Wholanta is the former Timegate and takes place this weekend, May 5-7, 2017, in Atlanta, GA, USA.

See the website for all the info you need on the con. :)

The costume track has some fan faves, such as Classic Who Costuming and New Who Cosplay, but new panels for this year include costuming as the Sixth Doctor and members of the Tyler family, amongst other new panels. :)

The Wholanta room block is sold out, but there still may be rooms at the rack rate.

Memberships, both one-day and for the full weekend, are still available at the door!

Hope to see you there!

I might be the last person to realise this or the only one who thinks its interesting, but it appears Karen wore her own shoes in her brief appearance in Closing Time.

Gang, we're aware of the asshattery that is the not-legally-binding/highly-dubious translation of the Russian terms of service (TOS) and we're discussing next steps.

(EDIT: I'm an idiot - our forward-thinking co-mod has already mirrored dw_cosplay at Dreamwidth. You can find it here.)

EDIT 2: apparently part of the new TOS mandates a user handing over a lot of personal information ("registering with the authorities") if they have over 3000 followers - something to do with violating Russian laws re: public assembled. Waiting to hear how that might apply to large communities, such as this one.

Further bulletins as warranted. Stay tuned.

I'm kicking around a bunch of ideas and I'm suffering "analysis paralysis". How would you tackle Toos' insane hat from "Robots of Death? Especially if you wanted to build it so that it could be broken down into a few parts for easier storage and transportation.

Just a quick update for the Wardrobe Portal at Wholanta https://wholanta.com/

The New Who cosplay panel on Sunday has been cancelled and replace by a second part of the Classic Who costume panel (there's also one on Saturday). However, this Sunday New Who panel may still return, but only if there is demand in the form of getting more panellists.

I still need two panelists for the New Who cosplay panel on Friday night at 8 PM. (I already have a River Song and an Eleven, so no need for those two characters.)

A Peri or two is wanted for the 6th Doctor and Peri panel on Sunday at 10 AM.

Rose and Jackie cosplayers are still needed for the Tyler family cosplay panel on Saturday at 11 AM. I have a Pete and a Mickey already!

The two panels, Costumes Inspired by the Who'verse and Big Finish Audios Costumers, have switched days. They are still both on at 3 PM, but the Inspired By panel is now on Sunday and the BFA panel is on Saturday. I still need panellists for the Inspired By panel -- if you have a Tardis dress or have a Cyberman from the Middle Ages or have a suit in a Doctor Who-inspired fabric (these are just some examples), please sign up as a panellist.

If you're interested in being a panelist, please reply to the post or send me a PM. Thanks!

Hi folks!

It's Kim, director of Wholanta's Wardrobe Portal aka the costume track. If you are definitely attending Wholanta (the former TimeGate), May 5-7 (note the date change; the con is no longer over Memorial Day weekend), and are a costumer/cosplayer, I have some panellists openings available. You can reply on the comm, or send a PM. I need only firm commitments before March 31st. The sooner you request a panel, the better chance you have of being on it. :)

Here is a list of the panels (please note that not every panel needs panellists):

Once again, panel sign-ups need to be in before March 31st!

Thanks in advance,
Kim

Wholanta, formerly known as Timegate, is the Doctor Who'verse and British media con in Atlanta, GA, USA, May 5-7, 2017. Please note the date change, as Timegate used to take place over Memorial Day weekend. For more info, see https://wholanta.com/ .

Just to let everyone know, as director of the costume track, I'm still working on the schedule, and will be putting out a regular call for panellists ASAP.

However, I have two panels that I need to find panellists for right away.

First off is the Sixth Doctor panel. We have Colin Baker attending, so I feel sure that some Six fans will be present, and in costume. So I need a couple of Sixth Doctor costumers!

Secondly on tap is the Tyler family panel. This is in honour of Camille Coduri aka Jackie Tyler, Rose's mum, one of the con's new actor guests. I'm looking for at least one Jackie, a couple of Roses, and if there's a Pete Tyler and a Mickey Smith, I'll be happy to have one each. :)

If you're attending Wholanta and would like to be on either of these panels, please reply or PM right away. :) Schedules need to be firmed up by March 1st on my end, so that's why I'm sending out this early request. :) Thanks in advance!

Dye help?

Hi everyone! I've got Clara's sessun dress from dark water/death in heaven in the alt blue and white colour, I was just wondering if anyone knows how I can dye it so it's more SA? I know it's possible as I've seen it done before :) any help at all will be greatly appreciated! - Katie xx

Hello!

Has anyone ever managed to ID this belt? Failing that, can anyone suggest a good ALT?

[identity profile] jessiesuniverse.livejournal.com
Hey Whovians,

I'm searching for the Whistles Parka for my Amy Pond cosplay. ( The cosplay is taken from the episode "The Angels Take Manhatten").
But until this miracle will happen I'm searching for a decent ALT.

So I found this:

http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Eliza+J+Hooded+parka+coat+with+3/4+sleeves/231429239,default,pd.html?stop_layout=yes

But I am not sure if this parka is a good alternative. The pockets are different, but it has 3/4 sleeves and the colour almost identical. What do you think?
Or does somebody know where I can buy a decent ALT?

Thank you for your help! :)

Australian cosplayers: Myer has a good ALT for Clara's UO Deep Breath bar necklace. It's on sale here!

It's back for a 4th year: Iron Costumer!

Two teams, one pile of stuff and sixty minutes in which to create…SOMETHING. Create what, exactly? You’ll find out when the secret theme is revealed! It’s Iron Chef meets Junkyard Wars – with a Doctor Who twist!

Gallifrey One is only a few weeks away* so it's time for me to make the annual plea for donations to "The Pile" for Iron Costumer: fabric, trims, sewing notions... if you don't mind hauling it to the convention, we have a use for it. All I ask that any fabric/trim be at least 1 yard and NOT shed glitter/fluff. The hotel staff hates cleaning up glitter almost as much as I do.

We could also reeeeeally use dollar-store glue guns and glue sticks this year. Oh, and if you're in the LA-area and willing to loan me your sewing machine, I'd be willing to repay the favor by letting you have post-event pillaging access to The Pile (one of the perks of participation otherwise reserved to the seamster on Teams Omega and Rassilon!)

Questions? Suggestions? Fling 'em at me.

*Cue: panic and mayhem on a personal level as until 24 hours ago, I wasn't going to be able to attend - but Santa had one last present on his sleigh.

MOD POST: a change to one community rule--important!
After some discussion, we the moderators have decided to take the community semi-public. Just like the sister community, http://dwcosplay-sales.livejournal.com/profile , http://dw-cosplay.livejournal.com/profile

Why can't I respond on that post? Apparently, you don't want your members to be able to respond in a fair and open manner, since you have made it impossible to respond or comment on your original post.

I have already objected previously to the sister community moderators for allowing posts which violate the image standards and have multiple high resolution photos displayed in a single post. The community standards say that only one photo should be allowed per post, and any aditional photos should be behind a cut, so they don't distort the board for other viewers. Posting multiple large phtoos makes it hard to view the boards, but you have ignored these reports and allowed the rude, inconsiderate posts to remain.

There is a post on the first page of the sister community now, that has multiple large images which stretches the board and makes it hard to view.

Are the moderators favoring certain accounts and allowing them to post whatever they want despite the published community rules? That appears to be the case.

Pleased do not retaliate against my account for reporting these inconsiderate posts, as you have done in the past.
